And so was my Yoga Walk of Peace day. If I had been better informed of the nature of this event I would have done a better job of spreading the much needed news for peaceful action. This conference was hosted by the Global Mala Project, which the intention:
"The purpose of the Global Mala is to unite the global yoga community from every continent, school or approach to form a "mala around the earth" through collective practices based upon the sacred cycle of 108 on Sept. 21st and 22nd, Fall Equinox as the yoga world's offering to further the UN International Peace Day. Each center offers their form of a Yoga Mala according to their yoga tradition and inspiration:
108 Sun Salutations (or variations of 27, 56)
108 rounds of mantra such as the Gayatri or Maha Mrityanjaya
108 rounds of a kriya
108 minutes of meditation, kirtan, movement meditation"

The above quote taken from the main site of Global Mala Project: http://www.globalmala.org/about.php.
Please refer for a complete coverage. It is very interesting.
What I did not realize the connection was to the UN International Peace Day. Why is not such important information regarding peace broadcasted more? I have not seen anything in the news about Peace Day. And here I missed it. Especially the part where at noon (September 21) there is asked a global minute of silence for world peace. Would not that been incredible? If whole cities, countries, communities, nations all stopped for one minute for silence and prayer of peace. Here is a website in reference to an article about UN International Peace Day: http://www.un.org/events/peaceday/2007/index.shtml
And so I went to the one hosted at the Los Angeles Convention Center. I went today, Sunday. Actually not too many people around. It was nice as I did not have to fight the mob to view booths. The assembly room had a multitude of booths for books, health foods, massage, clothes, and the works. Amazing really - the intent is to promote healthy, conscious living. I had found out about this event through the LA Weekly. Most of the attendees are Yoga instructors and students. So a lot of yoga oriented material as well! :)

I am dumbfounded that this is the first I have heard of it.
After all, I am a yoga teacher, have achieved all required accreditation, and yet am in the dark.
Yoga is a journey, and a continual unfolding of the path. I am so disappointed that this was not in my scheme of things this year. And I was so close- actually doing a project on the United Nations, the Millenium Goals. It is my intention with these next performances that Swede and I do, we start to bring awareness to people of the peace missions that are available.
Only problem is, even I don't know all that exists. Even I am searching through the commercialism for something real. I want to be a voice that alerts people to events such as this, and to give people a sense of empowerment.
Let me know if you have any other tricks up your sleeve!
I responded to your message on my blog about Christmas travels, etc.
Although I received this late, it is so appreciated and is going to be very helpful!
I know what you mean about being in the dark. I certainly feel that way too and it seems I really have to dig through the media and commerialism as well just to find important events, groups, missions, etc. I had only seen that one ad and jumped at it and lucky I did as that was all I got until I went.
Do you get AZNews? I think that is what it is called... the whole living newspaper that comes out every two months. I always found copies at the Co-op but of course Co-op is gone but I know that the newspaper would likely send out some information on this level (as Scottsdale was another area where this Yoga Global Mala Project took place).
Yes, I am going to do myself a favor and join the Yoga studio in El Segundo. I miss the yoga classes at SRC. With all that I am reading right now. Still plugging away at Seth Speaks as well as a book called Soul Mission/Life Vision, I am starting to feel something. I cannot describe it in words but basically as Seth was talking, if one starts to feel change in consciousness at the physical conscious reality, the shift is far greater than one assumes. Also I feel a sense of urgency, not sure why, but am glad that these books are good tools to keep on exploring, expanding, creating so to be guided along.
Yes, I feel that sense of urgency myself. that is what I was trying to describe in my dissertation blog about communication- there has got to be a faster more efficient way to communicate, so that we can take in knowledge, ALL knowledge at once without denunciating our physical form, if you know what I mean!
I think that the mental shift from reading Seth Speaks will definitely aid in that ability to take it all in.
I have been a little sidetracked. Girl, I have so many books I am reading right now all at the same time. As a yoga teacher, I am constantly looking for new sources of inspiration for myself and my students.
I found a darling book yesterday called "Angelspeake: How to Talk with Your Angels." I am so psyched because I have been searching for a book like this, but have had no luck. This one is precious with pictures and quotes like, "It is our mission to teach you to hear us. Our mission is to help you find your mission."

Ha! Talking about sidetracked??! Ohmygoodness. I seem to have aquired four books to read and attempting to read all four.... which of course is not occuring. I am somehow managing three right now. But need to focus more on the Seth Speaks!!!! I realized if I had kept to the 20 pages a day, I would have been done by now but no. I am also reading Soul Mission, Life Vision. A workbook of sorts and outlines some similiar thoughts as in Seth Speaks and the other books I have. Amazing how everything comes together.
Even this "warrior" idea. So many people use it and I like it (Dan Millman, Paulo Coelho, Alan Seale, and a few other writers I am coming across).
So, it's safe to say we both like a variety.
